Overview: We are a startup company focused on producing compressed earth bricks. We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Local Business Consultant to assist in the establishment and operation of our business in Senegal. This is a temporary assignment for a duration of 6 months that could be renewed and lead to a full-time employee position. It is ideal for a professional with a background in civil engineering and a passion for sustainable construction materials.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 5 years’ experience in business management, business development, or sales
- Previous experience in architecture, engineering or construction is helpful but not mandatory
- Good experience in financial planning and reporting
- Proficient in English. Knowledge of local languages is a must.
- A driver’s license is required.
Responsibilities:
- Equipment Importation: coordinate with government entity and customs for tax free importation of brick-making plant equipment.
- Legal Compliance: Register the company as a Limited Liability Company (LLC) and acquire the necessary permits to start the business in Senegal.
- Business Planning: assist in the creation of a business plan for the company
- Material Sourcing: Negotiate with laterite soil quarry owners to secure a consistent supply of raw materials.
- Business Development: Engage with local government and private sector to build partnerships to generate business opportunities and grow company revenue.
- On-going Operations: Manage compressed earth brick making business, including staffing, production management, quality management, material sourcing, sales, and maintenance, finance, and other responsibilities to ensure successful operations of the enterprise. working closely with the business owners.
- Marketing: represent and promote the company at tradeshows and other events and platforms
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and lead people
- Knowledge of local regulations and business practices in Senegal is an advantage
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Writing reports using modern software (e.g. Microsoft office pack)
- Develop workflows and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Delegating responsibilities and supervising business operations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees
